    INSURANCE

Insurance protection is important when moving overseas. Most people do not realize the potential risks of shipping effects via ocean transportation and TIMN feels it is important that our clients make the right decision about insurance. The percentage chance of your effects being lost are low, but storms on the seas can make the transit rough.

No moving company can guarantee with 100% certainty that all items will arrive in perfect condition and this why insurance is required. Consider insurance as part of the total package required in having a successful move. Consider the follow tips before purchasing any level of insurance.

    1. What would it cost to replace all my effects if the shipment was lost? Having a total value is the best way to start. Refer to your homeowner’s policy to see for what value did you insure your home for.
    2. What is my budget for insurance and my comfort level with my coverage? Many people over look the cost of insurance and this is a clear mistake. Only the individual can place a value on their effects and if a company states that insurance is included in the price then effective there is no coverage.
    3. Place higher values of fragile items such as mirrors, dishes, glassware and antiques. Place a lower value on items such as books and clothing that have a very low chance to be damaged. The total value of the shipment will remain the same, but the policy will protect you better.
    4. Create a detailed list of all items in your home with a value. If a problem arises it is clear to you and the insurance company what the value of any item is. Leave no room for speculation and guess work.
    5. Have your insurance provider clearly state the terms of your policy before purchasing one. Know the following.
      • How many days do I have to make a claim
      • What is the contact information for the insurance company
      • What are your responsibilities when making a claim
    6. Speak to your moving company and ask them to provide in writing their policies in dealing with a claim. A true quality service will have all the answers that are clearly outline and are design to help the individuals moving. Many policies are written to make it very hard to process a justified claim. TIMN is proud of its insurance protection and it is the best in the relocation industry.

TIMN’s mission is to provide a great move at a great price. Therefore our rates are highly competitive, but not to the point where the client is absorbing all the risks. Please email one of our moving councillors to speak with you about insurance. Educating our customers about the pros and cons of insurance will help insure customersatisfaction.
